Faith, Hope, Love

It suddenly struck me that I only have about 5 months of my teenage years left, and how am I going to make full use of these 5 special months of my life?

Another realisation struck me today during this nj band/S05/whatever gathering I had this afternoon. My life is so packed to the brim right now that sacrificing time for meeting up old friends is so hard. But I would never see it as a waste of time. It may not be very practical to have this mindset to value friends more than studies, but I really just can't help it. My friends out there whichever one of you is reading this, and whom I have not seen and chatted with for a long time, and no matter how deep our friendship may be, I really just want to tell you with sincerity that I still cherish this friendship of ours, and I am still interested in getting to know your life just because you are my friend. Sorry that I am not able to initiate any form of communication with you because double degree is too xiong, but if you ever need somebody to chat with, I am just a phonecall/msn/sms/email/snail mail/doorstep/tap on the shoulder/calling my name away, and I will definitely put down my stuff to listen to you willingly. So come talk to me okay!

Oh bother

AIG just had to get into this financial crisis in time for my professor to set a case study question of it for my final examination this coming November!

Okay I shouldn't have complained about that while there are people's lives out there affected by this untimely financial crisis.

It calls for a time to start picking up Time magazine, The Economist, Newsweek again, and I thought I never had to do this after I didn't take GP anymore.

Appreciation, jy! How will you ever truly grasp the essence of what you study if you don't even appreciate it?

Be as shrewd as snakes, yet as innocent as doves

1. There is a painful swelling at the back of my mouth. I don't know if it's the wisdom tooth or just an ulcer. If a wisdom tooth does somehow adds to you wisdom, then I would very much prefer the former. But if it needs to be plucked out then definitely otherwise please.

2. I don't know a single thing about F1, but I do know something about CH1004.

3. CH1004 is the module of the quiz I'm having tomorrow morning.

4. I finally caught up on 60% of my tutorials. Another 40% more to go, yay...

5. I'm still enjoying university life. =)

Detached from the world

I've already been a University student for 7 weeks, and I'm still trying to sink that fact in. Everything feels so surreal somehow. I always think back at the stuff that people (older people who have already been through this) used to tell me about how you would have crossed the most difficult part of your student life after you have graduated from JC. And then I look at the life I am leading now, and I realise that is SO wrong. Now, as a contrast to the past two years, I seem to be perpetually stuck in a vicious cycle of lagging behind lectures and tutorials, and sometimes I feel like I'm riding on a lazy cloud that's hovering above an expressway; a cloud that's driven by the wind (a breeze, specifically), and I'm just watching the vehicles move at high speed below me, rushing, speeding, dashing and in a second they will be out of my sight. The breeze is like my intelligence, pushing me forward in this race, yet always so inadequate to catch up with the rest. And those vehicles are my peers, always so quick to finish what I can never seem to complete.

This week, I went through a total of four tests; short tests but a whole lot of content to absorb. I used to hate staying up late to study, and would at all costs put aside what I've not completed and go to sleep for long, long hours. But here's a start for me; staying up late consecutively every night and waking up really early in the mornings just to study because I know I simply lack the brains to do well without doing this. I don't know if it's just me, but it feels so much different, and so much more tough than the previous two years. The only time that seems sufficient for me is during the late nights. If I didn't sleep, I would gain so much more time to just catch up on everything and heave a luxurious sigh of relief. But that would be impractical, and it is my duty to protect this body of mine given to me by God.

I cannot say that I am confident I will do well for the four tests (as well as the test last week), rather I am sure I did not because I know I made a lot of mistakes since I did not have the time to study intensely enough, but I am actually still glad of the outcome, because it is already an amazing thing how things turned out regardless of the extreme lack of time I have on my hands, and I attribute this miracle to God. I was feeling devastated over the amount of mistakes I made for my Math paper just now, but when I thought back, I realise how small are these tests as compared to the life I am living right now. I would not have been alive here today if Jesus hadn't died on the cross for me. So why am I, still being so silly, chasing after the untouchable, uncatchable wind?

Living in Hall

I just received an email from NTU and it is confirmed that I will be living in Hall 10, the furthest hall ever (other than 11) from the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. Alamak!!

Growing Up

My life is so much more happening from now onwards.......camping consecutively this weekend and next week, but I never did regret the laidback life I chose during the previous few months. I know I get virtually 0 income compared to my friends...but it's okay, it's not like I'm in desperate need of money.

Yeah I only have a month of holidays left and I'm trying to prepare myself for the new life ahead. Unlike how I used to be, I actually joined so many orientation camps hoping to enhance my social life and get rid of my anti-social self, but I don't think it's really working. I'm still stuck hanging around with the same few familiar faces without enthusiasm in getting to know strangers. Maybe this anti-social part of me is just inborn and can't be removed.

Anyway I've just picked up Twilight, and I'm still trying to figure out why this book is so popular. Or maybe I've already grown out of the teenybopper phase....hurhurhur....I'M OLD!

Small Singapore

I guess it was just on impulse that I decided to sign up for the Inter-Uni orientation camp thingy organised by some I-can't-remember-the-name club, but it wasn't so bad as I'd expected. Because I had Guan Qun to accompany me in the OG. haha. Because it had been a great day with GQ and ZW. Because I had so many coincidences with my friends today that when I think back, I can't really believe it myself. I went to Boon Lay in the morning and I met Simin at the control station and she was on her way to Taiwan! Had a really fun and great chat with her :D Then when I was at the NTU medical centre I saw Su Ting who was also enrolling into NTU! Too bad we weren't able to chat more about our lovely idol Bernice Liu and other stuffs but I'm sure we'll have a chance in future :) And at Far East Plaza later in the afternoon, I saw Kuan Yee! Had just a brief chat about uni and she told me to enjoy my holidays as much as possible before uni starts :P That's what everyone's telling me, so yeah, I shall just take their advice...conveniently...

And I still can't get over the fact that I have another five years of school to go through. That's just...splendid...

Second Week of June

Happy birthday to our dear chicky Wen Lin!! (don't know if you'll be here to see this but happy 19th!! Stay happy always!!! :D)

Last night was Etude 33 and it was so excellent! The pieces seems to be getting more and more nightmarish each year...I was sitting at the front row in VCH and at the end of the concert, especially after Danza Sinfonica, I could clearly see the hagged and tired look in their eyes! Poor juniors...you guys have really put in a lot of effort and done a really good job, especially the clarinet section (hahah biased towards my section) and the hornetters too!! haha...please rest well after this, all of you!!! :)

I took my Basic Theory Test last Wednesday and I didn't fail it. Driving lessons, here I come!! Bring it on, baby, Honda Civics at BB Driving Centre!~! hurhur.

Ahh my lovely Backstreet Boys in Moscow, Russia for their World Tour! (didn't get to catch them of course)
And this is jingying acting cool wearing shades in Russia....can't believe it huh....haha.

Fate

Looks like I really have an affinity with BAND...

A Russian brass band at Moscow, Russia. They were having some kind of ceremony for the dead warriors of the past the day we went there, and we just happened to be at the same location. This was taken outside the gate of the park and we weren't allowed in so it's kinda far.

Not exactly a band, but an orchestra preparing for a ballet performance in a theatre at St. Petersburg, Russia.A Finnish band at a church in Helsinki, Finland. Probably preparing for a band practice? Not sure about that.A Norwegian marching band performing in the famous park with lots of sculptures (I don't even remember the name of the park LOL) at Oslo, Norway.
Another Norwegian band parading on the streets for their National Day (yeh it just happened to be their National Day when we were there).Another one.And yet another Norwegian marching band, parading in the rain. And another one.A Danish band performing on the streets, probably for the annual marathon they were having the day we were there (another coincidence again =_=). Taken at Copenhagen, Denmark.
Another Danish band, parading in an amusement park with their little band members dressed up as cute little soldiers. Aww the cute little clarinetists. Taken at Tivoli Park in Copenhagen.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

What a coincidence, that two years ago, I blogged about the first installment of this movie in this very same blog (Jan 15 entry), and I watched it at the very same place - Orchard's Cineleisure. But it seemed so long ago, two years back that I have watched the first part of the movie.

Sometimes I just want to go back in time, and view my own life on a movie theatre screen, and look at how I used to be like, wearing the white uniform and strolling down Orchard Road with a bunch of friends. We really enjoyed ourselves back then, where we had to worry about nothing else other than finishing that Logarithms Exercise or Mechanics worksheet tucked away in our school bags. While then when we reached home we complained so much how all those work were crushing us down and prayed hard that teachers would let us off the next day and save us on the assignments. We just hadn't experienced JC and the real world yet.

And now? The stuffs I need to worry about are how I'm going to read a Traffic Police officer's hand signs and tuition fee loans for university and finding a guarantor for it. I know, it isn't much perhaps as compared to others who have even heavier responsibilities but I guess it wouldn't stop here anyway.

Yeah I'll be taking a Basic Theory Test on Wednesday and I want to pass it (who wouldn't, anyway? LOL).

I'll be going to NTU. It's fixed now. I can't change my decision anymore because it's past 12 AM.

I'll be studying Chemical Engineering and Economics.

I hope I made the right decision.

I can't believe this

I can't believe it. After two turbulent years of ups and downs and I'm back here in Blogger again.

I read through my entries in this blog again, and I can't believe that was how I sounded two years ago when I was that raw 16-year-old teenager fussing over hair loss and proclaiming my love for my school merely because of a now-seemingly-meaningless short-lived orientation I went through.

And I can't believe how FRANK I'd used to be in the past writing blog posts. Yes it IS shocking for me. I've been so used to withholding stuff when blogging during these two years that I never realised I've gone through such a drastic change in me. Life in NJ has made a thick barrier around me that I'm trying hard to demolish right now. I'm looking forward to life in university; a new beginning, a new environment, and my first step over the threshold of adulthood. And hopefully, I'll be a changed person again; now not negatively, but for the better, and I hope I won't let my friends down on that.

I went to Botanical Gardens with Angela today. And there we sat in the old pavilion, reminiscing our past and spoke about our lives and chatted till the sky was dark. We never stopped talking, and time seemed to pass unusually faster. Angela, you're the only one I can pour my soul out to and I am very very thankful for having you as my friend! I hope our friendship stays this way till the end of time!

There once used to be a time where I was irked merely by the sound of boisterous laughter and I discovered how gravely wrong was the perspective I had chosen to view the world in. It's time for me to be optimistic and be grateful that I am breathing and living as a normal and healthy human being and having shelter above my head and wearing clothes that shield me from the chilly wind. Injustice will never die away in this world, but I know better than to dwell on it because there are more things out there for me to cherish and love.

This is the world I'm living in, and I will make the best of it.

A reminder for all

I know everyone knows about this, but I think we all need to be reminded. It's good to cherish people around you, grab hold of any memory you can have of them, and one day you will thank yourself for these memories.

Anyway, saturday was April fool's day, did anyone get pranked on? I didn't, of course, occasion wasn't appropriate to begin with, lol. I remember last year's April fool's, 4/3 and 4/4 changed classrooms, and we all got scolded by B Lim. =.= Sometimes, it would be good if teachers could play along with students, but not all teachers have that sense of fun which students enjoy.

Enrichment Week

Next week is enrichment week, I'm supposed to have more free time set aside to finish all my work, but somehow, I took advantage of these free time too much that my other activities are lined up along the whole week. Geeeez.

Oh well, I still hope that I will be able to complete all my work somehow.

When it comes to blogging, I always become self-conscious from the knowledge that people I know do read my blog, so I am always at a loss of what to write that would not seem offensive for anyone. But now I think I am being OVERLY self-conscious that I'm making my blog almost void of my real life events, if you ever realise that. Haha. Somehow, this defeats the whole purpose of me creating this blog. =.=

March is ending soon. Awwww. Its making me feel older and older.

I took a picture with Ziwen and Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan today! :DD

Blast from the Past

Things were so much different in the past! I chanced upon my previous blog, and decided to read it. Somehow, its pretty fun to do so, lol, to look back and see how different my thinking used to be.

Here're some quotes from my blogs:

"Anyway, like Gordo, I think at this stage of life its better to spend time with friends rather than getting a date and wasting so much time that is totally not necessary at all at such an age."

"So once upon a time there was this girl who is scared of caterpillars and hates reading biographies. She has two illegimate brothers who were always discriminating her. But the two brothers dont exist. Because of this she decided to see a shrink who told her to drink five bowls of watermelon soup brewed with ginseng chicken. She did as she was told and five days later she was cured of her oh-so-dumb illness and her illegimate brothers went away.

But five days later her illegimate brothers were back and they threw caterpillars and biographies at her. She went to see the shrink again and was told to drink five litres of caterpillars and biographies pounded and mixed with water. This time her illegimate brothers went away and came back only after ten days. Why did they come back? Because the illegimate brothers is that stupid shrink and the shrink does not exist as well, and the girl doesnt exist either because I made her up so Im just being insane.

The above story is completely fictional. Any resemblance to real life characters is purely coincidential and blah blah blah. "

That time I was being REALLY bored.

"I have a bad range of results: from 40 something to 80 something.
40+: 1 subject
50+: 1 subject
60+: 2 subjects
70+: 2 subjects
80+: 3 subjects"

"I just had the weirdest dream of my life two days ago. I dreamt that my second brother and my father are vampires and they have these long canine teeth in their mouth and they suck blood. And I was so scared that I will get bitten, and the dream was SO REAL!! Then there was these eight numbers that appeared in my mind which seem to form a handphone number because the eight numbers start with a 9. And last night I was too afraid to sleep because I was afraid that I would have that vampire dream again. Then when my mother came in to look on me I thought she was a vampire and I realised that I had actually murmured out the word "vampire" in a frightful way because my mother was all confused saying "vampire?" "

Freaky dream, I still remember it. lol.

"Firstly, today is a very significant day!!! Its my house's tenth year anniversary!!! Ten years ago, my family moved from to my current house now. Ten years. A decade. Pretty old huh?

Sadly, there's no celebration for this anniversary thing. Nobody else in my family remembers it other than me. I dont even know why I even bothered to remember it anyway, when I was five years old at that time."

Lol, I still remember the date.

"And then, its the BO LIAO talk. Well, I was like falling asleep most of the time because what he had said to us was like already being told to us and everything. Then mr foo talked about the dropping of subjects. And yeah, I really feel like dropping some subjects, like, e maths(for insane reasons my a maths always scores better than my e maths), bio and chinese. But thats impossible because: 1. you cant just take a maths without e maths and that's stupid 2. my mother, who was previously a biology teacher, will kill me if I drop bio and 3. you cant drop chinese or youll get kicked out of school."

"What I LOVE about school:

1. a tool for killing time (or is it?)
2. friends
3. food at the canteen is cheap"

Haha, maybe some of you will remember all these. But now, I find it funny lol. I think whoever is reading this must be laughing at me now. Ah well, this WAS me at 15 years old, I shouldn't be afraid to show this to public. Sometimes its quite fun to have a peek at your past too lol.

One more! lol.

"I FORGOT TO BRING MY ENGLISH TYS HOME!!!!!!!! Isn't this frustrating?? I hate my locker, but I do love it. I hate it because I love it too much that I leave everything in there."

Seventeenth

Went out with Guan Qun today! Love ya girl! Hope you had a happy birthday as I did! =))

Every year's today I would think of what I did the previous few years during my birthdays. Last year I went out with Chermaine to watch a movie, Hitch I think, though I can't really remember it but I think it was pretty nice. I remember we took a lot of neoprints on that day! Then I met Qiwen and some of the SJAB peeps who went out with her. We were pretty surprised and we greeted each other with 'happy birthday' at the neoprint shop! Then the passers-by were looking at us like some weirdos. Haha.

In 2004 my birthday fell on the last day of Adventure Camp! I remember the night before Mr Chow brought a cake for the three of us! We celebrated at the camp! Such a wonderful teacher! On the next day it was my birthday, we returned from the camp, and I went home, and I SLEPT for the whole day. Can you imagine that? Sleeping at home on my birthday! What a way to pass the day of the year! But at least we got to celebrate with the rest of the class the night before, I'm contented!

In 2003 I went out with my parents to Swensen's, ate there, and we went off to Malaysia. So my birthday was spent in the car ride! Anyway, it was quite cool though because I got to have the back seat all to myself since my brother didn't go. I can't remember what happened during my birthday in 2002, probably nothing much anyway, I didn't write down in my diary either.

In exactly 49 minutes 19th of March will end! Soon I will be 17 years and a day old....

Happy Birthday!!

Firstly, just wanna say a huge

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

to Guan Qun and Qiwen! And to myself too!

17 years ago on this very day, the three of us are born! Only that I was born a bit further than the two of them....hmm....

Secondly, I hope the year ahead would be filled with more laughter, joy and less tears!

Lastly, THANKS to all who wished me today!! THANK YOU!!! I feel so touched *teary eyed*

Frankly speaking, I don't really feel like going to school tomorrow! I'm going to make a new set of friends, third time I'm doing that within three months, and sometimes, it's quite tiring to do so. And I'm not going to see the same few familiar faces anymore! But anyway, I'll try to adapt as how I did with OG1 and 06S05....

I'll miss you people!

Trip to Malaysia

I went over to Malacca on Wednesday. It was a pretty last minute decision that I had to pack like 15 minutes before we left. It was like, 13:30 I reached home after band, before 14:00 we left. I didn't even bring any CDs along, not to mention my CD player, but luckily my brother brought his CDs so that I can at least hear some music on the car. My bag was pretty small, just a simple sling bag and my clothes were put in my mum's lagguage. I think I just broke my own record, packing my stuff in 15 minutes.

My dad drove straight to the hospital the moment we reached Malacca. I saw my grandma, she looked really really sick, really different from the usual old woman we always saw. She couldn't even speak properly, and she slimmed so much, or should I say, she was extremely thin. It was scary, really, I mean, someone you knew so well changed so much from a relatively strong person to such a fragile sight, who wouldn't get a shock? I just hope that the next time I return, she would be the same grandma I knew in the past.

I miss 4/3'o5!

Last 7 days of sweet 16

06S05 is going to split up soon. I don't know if this is a good thing or bad thing to me, but I know this is a fact that will be realised no matter what. I will miss all of you guys and all that happened these three months when we're together and I do hope every one of you will remember me too.

The day I turn 17 will start another phase of my life. Be prepared for more grey and more books and more brain cells pruned.
